摘要：	Transportation development through roads, rails, waterways, etc. are implemented in individual sector in isolation and there is no integrated development plan considering other mode of infrastructure like waterways with roads which is supportive mode of transportation specially in coastal areas. This paper deals with roads and waterways, i.e., mix-mode transportation. Necessity of mix-mode transportation elaborated as integrated plan which is possible in coastal areas. Having realised that 100% transportation facilities in coastal areas only through roads is not adequate due to creeks, islands, rivers, water bodies, hilly terrain on one side and open sea on other side. Hence, road with waterways would be the better option to give access to all parts of coastal areas. The author has suggested various advantages of mix-mode transportation presenting Route Maps showing various locations along the coastline in the State of Maharashtra. Route Map shows tourist places, forts, beaches, district places and connectivity from highways. This route shows the saving in distance using road and waterway together. Methodology adopted by the author to create short route to save travelling time, saving in vehicular operation cost, pollution minimisation, etc. Decrease in traffic congestion on highways as alternate routes would be available. The author has given success story of mix-mode transportation and suggested the use of waterways at various locations. Also, author has suggested concept of coastal development with the clustering of various activities using mix-mode transportation for other commercial activities associated with coastal villages. Recommendations and conclusions are provided in the end to have socio-economic benefits from the mix-mode transportation.
