| 摘要： | The roads and highways are lifelines which need to be kept in healthy conditions throughout its service life with timely maintenance. The roads and Highway maintenance is an important activity of every Highway Department to cater demand of growing traffic loads & volumes to ensure safe passage at an appropriate speed and with low road user costs. The safety and convenience of traffic using the road are governed to a large extent by the quality of maintenance. The operation-economics of road transport is influenced by the degree of maintenance imparted to the road. Experience shows that without adequate and timely maintenance, roads and highways are inexorably deteriorated, leading to higher vehicle operating costs, increased numbers of accidents, and reduced reliability of transport services. IRC has been in the forefront in promoting this message and in drawing attention to the dangers of neglect towards maintenance. The matter has become increasingly important in recent years for all the highways to cater for growing traffic loads and volumes. |
