The impact of construction variables on the long-term performance of hot mix asphalt (HMA) pavements must be evaluated over a wide range of material sources and mix designs. The research should cover a variation of aggregate sources and gradations, asphalt binders contents, and in- place air voids. The proposed research will evaluate the impact of construction variability of aggregate gradation, binder content, and in-place air voids, on the performance of HMA pavements. The performance of HMA pavements will be measured n terms of their resistance to rutting, fatigue and thermal cracking using advanced laboratory test techniques. Thermal cracking will be evaluated for north mixtures only. Materials will be selected to cover common sources throughout Nevada and typical mix designs. |
