This report discusses the sinking of the U.S. small passenger vessel Panther in the Ten Thousand Islands area of Everglades National Park, Florida, on December 30, 2002. The accident resulted in no deaths and one serious injury. Damage to the Panther was estimated at $60,000. From its investigation of the accident, the National Transportation Safety Board identified the following safety issues: company operations, company's preventive maintenance program, and lifejacket stowage. On the basis of its findings, the Safety Board made recommendations to the National Park Service. |
