This document presents the results of the evaluation of the 511 Virginia Advanced Traveler Information System (ATIS), a system that operates on the I-81 corridor in Virginia. The evaluation focused on The Virginia Department of Transportations (VDOT) three ITS goals for the 511 Virginia service: Productivity, Customer Satisfaction, Mobility and efficiency. Methods of collecting data for the evaluation included the following: Focus groups to obtain preliminary information about traveler behavior and to help create the phone survey; A web and phone survey to obtain data directly from users of the service about their levels of satisfaction with the service and how it affected their behavior; An awareness survey to measure general awareness of the service in the coverage area and across Virginia; A retroactive data analysis of past performance measures to identify trends in user behavior and system performance, as well as factors affecting the service. Due to the small number of participants, please note that the findings of the focus group and the web survey are not necessarily representative of the general population. Moreover, it is important to note that the 511 Virginia website was modified before the final report was delivered. Some findings and recommendations may not apply or have already been implemented. |
