The objective of the study was to determine the efficacy and success of SHAs public service campaign regarding pedestrian safety. Data collection issues forced a change in this focus as the project progressed. The study contains two issues that are addressed for an important segment of society - elderly citizens. The results allow an examination of senior citizen attitudes concerning pedestrian safety. A survey was conducted to determine the attitudes and beliefs of senior citizens concerning pedestrian safety. The surveys were conducted at local senior centers. In addition, focus groups were conducted at six senior centers to allow the seniors to discuss these issues. Standard statistical methods were employed to analyze the survey, while the analytical framework for the focus groups was drawn from critical ethnography and studies of practice and discourse in public policy. These methodologies are discussed in detail in the report. |
