摘要: Adolescence represents a unique period in the life cycle, bringing with it special challenges and opportunities. No longer children and not yet adults, adolescents make significant choices about their health, and develop attitudes and health practices that continue into adulthood. Adolescents face choices in areas including driving habits, substance use, sexuality, physical exercise, and diet. Risky behavior in these areas contributes to the leading causes of adult morbidity and mortality. Thus, fostering healthy adolescent development and behavioral choices has the potential to improve the health of adults as well as adolescents. This monograph presents an overview of the health status of American adolescents.
