This report contains the results of the research conducted for Research Project 154, FC no. 00-185, 'Evaluation and Treatment of Expansive Volcanic Soils-US95, Owyhee County, Idaho.' The project began February 1, 2000, and terminated on June 30, 2002. Expansive soils are defined in this report as any soil, which under certain conditions in certain environments is capable of exhibiting increases in volume (swelling) while experiencing increases in water content. The objectives of the project were as follows: 1. Identify the causes of the swelling of the subgrade soils underlying the first 18.5 miles of US95 in Owyhee County, Idaho. 2. Identify methods to evaluate the swelling of expansive soils. 3. Identify treatment methods that will stabilize the subgrade soils for both existing and new construction pavements. |
