The vibration generation and the nuisance of the vibrations for pleasant environment are studied in the publication. Advice and design tools for planners and decision-makers are given. The recommendations cover both the use of calculation and field testing in prediction of the vibrations. The publication complements the recommendations for measurements and classification of vibrations given in VTT Research Notes 2278. Three design levels with different accuracy are proposed. Level 1 is based on the empirical precaution distances, which determine either the land use is safe or not on the point of vibrations. Level 2 is usually based on design equations or vibration measurements. Then also data of traffic and ground are more detailed taken into consideration. Level 3 requires always the vibration measurements from the ground. The publication is based on field measurements and FEM calculations. Also simplified estimation procedures for rail and road traffic are shown in the appendices. The results show that the vibration measurements, for which detailed recommendations are given, are the best way for assessment of the vibration propagation. The accuracy of other evaluation methods is adequate only for evaluation the order of vibration magnitude and for estimating the relative influence of different parameters. |
