摘要: This report discusses the September 8, 2019, accident involving the roll-on/roll-offvehicle carrier Golden Ray, which capsized while transiting outbound through St. Simons Soundnear Brunswick, Georgia. At the time of the accident, the vessel had 23 crew and 1 pilot on board;2 crewmembers sustained serious injuries, and 4 engineering crew remained trapped in the engineroom and engine control room for nearly 40 hours before being rescued. The vessel was declareda total loss. Total costs for the loss of the vessel were estimated at $62.5 million, and total costsfor the loss of the cargo were estimated at $142 million. Safety issues identified in this reportinclude improperly calculating vessel stability and lack of company oversight for calculatingvessel stability. As part of its accident investigation, the National Transportation Safety Boardmakes two recommendations to G-Marine Service Co. Ltd.
