摘要: Implementation of decision-making tools based on artificial intelligence (AI) has introduced anew set of concerns related to fairness in organizations. It is clear that human decision makersdemonstrate biases and make errors in decisions related to hiring, compensation, discipline, and other human resource (HR) topics. Regardless, applicants and employees are expressinghigh levels of concern about the fair and appropriate use of AI in HR decision making. Thischapter reviews research and theoretical perspectives about fairness in HR, includingorganizational justice and social exchange. We then compare these perspectives with researchfrom the AI and information systems literatures to examine different viewpoints on fairnessand why the fairness of decisions made by humans and AI systems might be judgeddifferently. We highlight a potential paradox in thinking about automation and intentionalityof AI decision tools, and discuss the potential impact on the use of these systems within HR.
