摘要: Aircraft not receiving radar services rely on seeand avoid and radio coordination via Common Traffic AdvisoryFrequencies to remain well clear of each other and avoid mid-aircollisions. Radio coordination is usually performed in the vicinityof non-towered airports whereas non-radar services en-routeoperations rely solely on see and avoid. This paper presents theresults of a simulation study of the effectiveness of assistive detectand avoid technologies when used to enhance pilots’ ability to seeand avoid nearby traffic. Three different experimental conditionsare modeled, representing “unaided see and avoid”, “see andavoid with traffic advisories”, and “see and avoid with assistivedetect and avoid technology”. The effectiveness of see and avoidis evaluated using a set of head-on, crossing, and overtakingencounter scenarios and a model of visual acquisition embeddedin a Monte Carlo simulation. The effectiveness of assistive detectand avoid is estimated for the same encounter scenarios. Aprototype system for detect and avoid and a summary of resultsare presented. Preliminary results strongly suggest that assistivedetect and avoid could greatly enhance the capabilities of flightcrews to avoid traffic and remain well clear.
