The proposed effort would establish a research and financial partnership, funding plan and the technical and preliminary architectural specifications for an acoustic test facility to serve the research and test needs of the Aerospace industry, and, possibly, the Architectural industries in the Great Plains region. The facility would also provide a state-of-the-art research and teaching laboratory for the University of Kansas. The primary Aerospace industries in Wichita—Spirit AeroSystems, Hawker-Beechcraft and Cessna—have expressed strong interest in such a facility to support aircraft interior noise reduction—which is the PI’s primary research interest. At least one building acoustics firm in the Kansas City area has also expressed interest. Such business partners would want to use the facility both to conduct research and to measure the performance of various noise treatments on their products. University researchers would use the facility to conduct research, while students would have access to industrial strength learning experiences. The proposed facility would, notably, help add value to aircraft products designed and produced in Kansas. |
