The traditional in-car network consists of different network technologies like CAN,FlexRay,and MOST.All of them are just optimized solutions for specific use cases.Ethernet wasn ' t seen as a solution to any applications in the car.German OEMs fixed on the idea of using the high-speed MOST ( Media Oriented Systems Transfer) data bus for in-vehicle cameras and video applic:ations. However,MOST has fallen out of favor in some quarters, partially because of cost-related issues. At the same time,Ethernet has gained momentum, hecause it' s a fast, mature technology with high production volumes in the computer industry. The automakers in China,Korea, and the US who did not already have MOST in their vehicles are highly interested in Ethernet. In next generation vehicles.many innovative applications could benefit from the increased bandwidth Ethernet can offer. Therefore,an examination of Ethernet usage for additional in-vehicle communication use cases is needed.Ethernet technology in the car has been gaining momentum lately. Many vehicles now have hackup cameras, and many others are going to add cameras to support Advanced Driver Assistance Systems as lane keeping, adaptive cruise control, and collision avoidance.Because cameras are bit-gobblers,a fast data bus, such as Ethernet, makes sense as a data highway connecting those camera applications. In this paper, different realistic technologies, problems and imitations of promising use cases of Ethernet cameras for ADAS in-car are evaluated and presented. |
