摘要: This paper presents a synopsis of challenges and candidate solutions for bridges that range from wobbly footbridges to futuristic long span bridges equipped to morph their shape for enhancing their performance to vortex-induced vibration (VIV),buffeting and flutter. For wobbly footbridges a comprehensive protocol for designing under winds is advanced based on a field measurement campaign that relies on a validated "citizen sensing" to monitor dynamics of remote bridges.Regarding the modern long span bridges with streamlines decks issues surrounding nonlinear aerodynamics and the role of turbulence and non-stationary winds are highlighted.A cache of solutions based on reduced-order models to capture nonlinear features these bridges are known to exhibit are presented. The role of shape optimization of bridge decks is discussed with a vision of real-time morphing of bridge deck profile through sensing, optimization, machine learning and actuation. This futuristic autonomous approach promises to enhance the performance of bridges to optimal under a range of wind actions that include, VIV, buffeting and flutter.
