Low Pressure Exhaust Gas Recirculation(LP-EGR)is one of the several technologies that are being investigated to de-liver future CO2 reduce and match legislative emission standards. This paper will introduce the LP-EGR design risks on the turbocharged gasoline engine and its mitigation.Stringent legislative measures or national and international legislation/laws oblige the automotive indus-try to reduce fuel consumption and emission. Most of the OEMs in Asia,US and Euro are using or considering to use CEGR for gasoline engine. To comply with those regulations and to stay competitive in the global market,it is necessary to adopt new technology.Cooled Ex-haust Gas Recirculation(CEGR)is an effective way to improve fuel economy and reduce NOx.Besides the clear advantages of LP-EGR applications on fuel economy and emission, there are some challenges to the components design and software control.Problems concerning components are the risk of condensate water, carbon deposition, fouling, cooler boil-ing,the low differential pressure of the system, failure risk of catalyst, selection of EGR cooler specifications, leakage of the EGR valve, the noise of Delta p valve outlet, and transient control about response delay and control accuracy. This paper will present the de-sign experience of the low pressure EGR system that we have accumulated and excavated in the LP-EGR project. |
