January 2022 - Construction underway; May 2021 - Highland Council's planning committee has unanimously approved proposals which will see a new railway station built at Inverness Airport; February 2021 - Site has been selected for new railway station; December 2020 - Network Rail has submitted a planning application for a new railway station at Inverness Airport; August 2020 - Phase I Completed; March 2020 - Work on Kintore station underway, double-tracking of the line between Aberdeen and Inverurie completed; August 2018 - Aberdeen - Dyce section has been completed; December 2016 - Phase I will cost GBP330mn (USD419mn) instead of earlier expected GBP170mn (USD216mn) due to delays; October 2015 - BAM Nuttall has been selected as the principal contractor for phase I; Project is being carried out in phases, phase I includes redoubling the 25.7km track between Aberdeen and Inverurie, upgrading signalling systems between Nairn and Elgin, platform extensions at Insch and Elgin, relocation of Forres station, track loop extension at Forres, and facilitating infrastructure for the construction of two new stations at Dalcross and Kintore |
