December 2021 - Construction underway; October 2021 - Project will be in operation at the end of 2026; February 2020 - Construction of railway tracks has been completed on Gipuzkoan section; January 2020 - More than EUR3.5bn (USD3.87bn) has been invested in the project; December 2019 - Tenders called to rebuild San Sebastian station; July 2018 - JV of OHL and its affiliates Sobrino, G&O and Geotunel has secured a EUR134mn (USD156mn) contract to build Mondragon - Elorrio - Bergara section; May 2018 - Construction on San Sebastian station will begin by end of 2019; October 2017 - Loan agreement worth EUR600mn (USD705mn) signed with EIB; Line consists of two different branches - Vitoria-Bilbao, 90.8 km, and Bergara-San Sebastian-French border, 89.7 km and will have six stations - Astigarraga, Bilbao-Abando, Vitoria, Irun, San Sebastian-Norte and Ezkio-Itsaso with 44 viaducts and 23 tunnels; Project cost - EUR6.5bn |
