January 2022 - Project under planning stage; August 2021 - China Civil Engineering Construction and China Railway 11th Bureau have won a USD370.4mn contract to deliver civil engineering and track upgrades for a section of a 350 km railway line between Hungary and Serbia; June 2021 - Construction underway on Serbia section; April 2021 - EU has committed to cover 35-50% of project cost for construction of railroad that will link Serbian capital city of Belgrade, through Nis; February 2021 - Budapest-Belgrade scheduled to complete by 2023; January 2020 - Serbia included the project in EUR3.5bn (USD3.8bn) 2025 programme; December 2019 - Greece and Serbia officials signed a joint declaration establishing strategic partnership between two countries; July 2018 - Serbia and China signed a EUR943mn (USD1.10bn) agreement for third section of Belgrade-Budapest line (350 km), costing EUR3.8bn (USD4.45bn); November 2017 - Serbia commenced construction on 30 km section from Belgrade to the northern town of Stara Pazova; December 2014 - Governments of China, Hungary, Serbia and Macedonia have agreed to build the project by expanding the Budapest-Belgrade rail line to Skopje, Athens and the port of Piraeus in Greece; Project is being implemented under China's One Belt One Road Initiative; [B&R] |
