February 2022 - Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) will receive this year MXN1.5bn (USD76mn) from the National Tourism Fund (Fonatur) for the elaboration of the project; October 2021 - Ministry of finance of Mexico has submitted a request to the General Congress of the United Mexican states to allocate MXN83.9bn (USD4.1bn) in the 2022 budget for three transport projects; August 2020 - Mayan Train cost increased to MXN156bn (USD6.87bn) due to expansion on Merida-Cancun and Cancun-Chetumal sections as well as electrification of sections; December 2019 - Project has received support from five states; Project is part of 1554 km El Tren Maya (Mayan Train Project), that would pass through the states of Yucatan, Campeche, Tabasco, Chiapas and Quintana Roo |
