November 2021 - Project under planning stage; October 2020 - Federal Government's 2020-21 budget brought forward AUD605mn (USD434.4mn) into the forward estimates in order to accelerate stages II and III of the project; April 2019 - Federal Government has committed AUD700mn (USD498mn) for the Stage II and Stage III of South Geelong to Waurn Ponds Rail Upgrade to increase the capacity and reliability of the line; Stage II includes duplication of track from South Geelong to Waurn Ponds, second platform and upgrade the existing stations at South Geelong and Marshall, a new rail bridge over the Barwon River and grade separation of the level crossings at Fyans Street and the Surf Cost Highway
