February 2021 - Tajikistan negotiates financing of its section; January 2021 - 30 km Aqina-Andkhoy section inaugurated in Afghanistan; April 2020 - Turkmen Railways and Ministry of Transport of Afghanistan discussed construction of Aqina-Andkhoy railway line; January 2020 - Tajikistan and Afghanistan signed agreement on construction of railway line; February 2019 - MoU signed between Afghanistan Railway Authority and Ministry of Transportation and Communication of Turkmenistan for construction of Afghanistan's 30 km Aqina - Andkhoy section; October 2018 - Tajikistan and Turkmenistan reached an agreement on intensification of works; July 2018 - Construction work on Afghanistan to Tajikistan section of project to start by end of 2018; November 2016 - 3.5 km section Imamnazar (Turkmenistan) - Aqina (Afghanistan) officially opened; November 2015 - 85 km section Atamyrat - Imamnazar in Turkmenistan completed; June 2013 - Construction started for Atamyrat - Imamnazar section in Turkmenistan; Project includes 635 km of railroad running through Atamyrat and Imamnazar in Turkmenistan, then to Aqina, Andkhoy, Sheberghan, Mazar e Sharif, Khulm, Kunduz and Shirkhan bandar in Afghanistan and finally Panjpayan and Kolkhozabad in Tajikistan; Total project cost - USD2bn |
