May 2021 - Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency has signed a EUR3.8mn (USD4.61mn) deal with a consortium between Ramboll Finland and AFRY Finland for the construction planning of the Espoo city line from Leppavaara station to the Tuomarila overpass, along the Helsinki-Turku railway connection; February 2021 - Feasibility studies are underway; December 2020 - Government of Finland has established Turku One Hour Train Project Company who will administer the planning for the new line; July 2020 - Funding, worth EUR37.5mn (USD43mn) awarded for planning of the line from EU; February 2020 - Central and local government authorities have reached agreement on establishing project companies responsible for planning and funding of project; Project is divided into 4 parts, Espoo urban railway line, Espoo-Salo direct rail line, Salo-Turku double track, and Turku railway yards; Project cost - EUR2.2bn |
