Development of Reliable Methods to Analyze Battered Piles and Piles in Sloping Ground
项目名称: Development of Reliable Methods to Analyze Battered Piles and Piles in Sloping Ground
摘要: Highway bridge piers and abutments are usually supported on deep foundations such as piles and drilled shafts, including battered piles. Unfortunately, there are no effective procedures or guidelines that handle the analysis of battered piles in these applications. The available procedure to analyze battered piles is very simplified and represents a purely structural system approach that ignores the presence of soil. All of the design recommendations are either simplified or based on crude assumptions. As a result, the designers following a more conservative design approach, resulting in higher construction costs. It should be noted that traditional p-y curves employed in programs such as LPILE and used in current practice were assessed from tests on laterally loaded vertical piles. What is needed is a procedure for the design of battered piles or piles in sloping grounds.
