June 2021 - Project opened; September 2020 - Ground works are set to be carried out to pave way for Phase II; May 2020 - Works on Phase I completed and building handed over to West Midlands Railway (WMR); November 2018 - Work has started on putting in place the foundations for first section of project; February 2017 - Galliford Try won construction contract; Project is being developed in 2 phases, Phase I includes six ticket vending machines, new British Transport Police, toilet, accessibility and baby changing facilities, three retail units ready to be fitted out, and train crew accommodation, Phase II will see demolition of remainder of the current station building and completion of new build to house three more retail units, as well as a customer waiting room and help point; Project includes already-operational bus station, the building of office and retail development i10, Midland Metro city centre extension, refurbished and extended railway station multi-storey car park, and demolition of the current railway station building, with a new one to be built adjacent to it; Project cost - GBP150mn |
