As part of a project with the Iowa Department of Transportation to develop a set of standards for single-span prefabricated bridges in the 30'-70' span range for use by Iowa Counties, HDR provided recommendations for a preferred system utilizing precast concrete box beams for longer span ranges. The development of the standards has been divided into three phases, Phases 1 & 2 were previously contracted. Phase 1 developed the concept, the recommendations, and initial details, and Phase 2 of the project was established to provide consultation on testing for the recommended system. This scope of work is provided to define the effort for Phase 3 of the project which will focus on refinement of the concept, some additional parametric studies and final design/development of the standards. As a follow-up to Phase 1, a workshop on Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) techniques was held in Ames, Iowa on May 1-2, 2014. As a result of the workshop, it was decided to also consider the use of a new generation of double T beams being developed by the New England states (NEXT beams) for potential use in the Iowa Short Span Standards. Phase III Tasks: 1.0 - Project Management, Meetings and Quality Assurance; 2.0 - Parametric Studies of Span vs. Structure Type; 3.0 - Reinforced Concrete Beam Design; 4.0 - Prestressed Concrete Beam Design; 5.0 - Cast-in-Place Abutment Design; 6.0 - Precast Concrete Abutment Design; 7.0 - Bridge Standards - Engineering Development and Drafting. |
