In 2010 in Arkansas on rural two-lane U.S. and State Highways, there were 5,405 crashes that occurred when a vehicle left the travel lane. Of these 5,405 run-off the-road type crashes, 2,674 (49%) occurred in horizontal curves. Moreover, from 2007 through 2010, there were 391 head-on crashes in horizontal curves in Arkansas. There are low cost experimental treatments that should be studied to determine if they would be suitable to reduce crashes in horizontal curves on Arkansas roadways. There are various treatments that have been developed that could possibly be used to treat the current safety issue in horizontal curves. |
