Identification of Localized Intermodal Emissions Problems through Finer Resolution of GIFT
项目名称: Identification of Localized Intermodal Emissions Problems through Finer Resolution of GIFT
摘要: In FY10, the Maritime Administration (MARAD) funded the completion of the web-based Geospatial Intermodal Freight Transport (GIFT) tool. GIFT allows users to identify optimal, multimodal freight routing pathways based on factors such as air emissions and carbon reductions, time, and cost. While regional resolution for GIFT is well established, it is important to identify any localized issues, such as an increase of emissions or congestion at an intermodal transfer hub that may result through recommended freight routing shifts. This work, funded through the established University of Delaware and Rochester Institute of Technology cooperative agreements, will involve partnering with local freight and corridor coalitions as well as the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA). Supports the MAR-410 Strategic Plan by continuing to promote environmental sustainability, continuing maritime environmental research partnerships with academia, and promoting energy efficiency in transportation. This work builds upon the MARAD sponsored GIFT Model to allow for more localized analysis of alternative routing. As such the utility of the model at the local level will be improved.
