Walkability Index (SI-10-01.02) - Operations |
摘要: |
The research project looks at intersection mobility from the pedestrians perspective and develops a standardized Walkability Index that could be used in communities across the country. The overall intent of this research effort is to maximize pedestrian mobility where appropriate. The premise is that although pedestrian safety is an important part of intersection design and operation mobility is maximized around vehicles. In many cases this is not the best approach for maximizing total person (pedestrian and vehicle passengers) throughput and can actually decrease safety due to unintended pedestrian behavior modification. Further it is assumed a safer easier less stressful walking experience would entice a shift to a pedestrian mode of travel. |
