Freight Routing for Efficient, Sustainable and Reliable Travel
项目名称: Freight Routing for Efficient, Sustainable and Reliable Travel
摘要: This project will propose to study freight routing methods that take into consideration issues of efficiency, reliability and sustainability. Efficiency deals with finding paths that minimize travel time; the reliability component addresses the uncertainty in travel times due to unpredicted traffic and disruptions; and the sustainability component takes into account vehicle carbon-dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions when determining the best routes. Another important aspect of the methods we will study is the consideration of risk in the decisions, which is crucial given all the uncertainty involved. The work, which will be conducted in collaboration with co-principal investigator (PI) Marco Nie from Northwestern University, builds upon ongoing state-of-the-art research being conducted by the PI and the co-PI on methodology for risk-averse optimization in transportation. We plan to implement and validate the proposed models and algorithms using real traffic data obtained from the Gary-Chicago-Milwaukee (GCM) traveler information system.
