In order to complete the research programme on the supply of and demand for public transport services to and within various residential locations in Delhi, the capital of India, household surveys were implemented in two contrasting socio-economic areas. The two residential areas chosen differed from those previously studied in being located 14 kilometres from the city centre, previous survey locations having been further from or closer to the central area. Data were obtained of socio-economic characteristics of households together with data on household and per capita trip rates. In addition, details of trips were collected so that modal choice, distance travelled, time spent travelling and expenditure on transport could be compared. Attitudes of household heads towards public transport services supplied by the Delhi Transport Corporation were also obtained. Public transport supply characteristics both of conventional modes and unconventional para transit systems were collected. This report describes the results of the surveys. (A) |
