Minimum Intersection Illumination
项目名称: Minimum Intersection Illumination
摘要: The primary objective of this project is to examine whether Louisiana has a traffic safety problem due to lack of lighting at its intersections, particularly at roundabouts and stop-controlled intersections, at rural and suburban areas. Underlying this objective, this research aims to undertake a nationwide survey of state DOTs to document lessons learned from states who have adopted partial or full lighting policies or other potentially low-cost countermeasures at their intersections. Through a driving simulator experiment, this study also aims to investigate if intersections’ lighting has significant impact on drivers’ ability to safely perform the driving task at intersections. Finally, a cost-benefit analysis will be conducted to assess the benefits from providing intersections with partial or full lighting considering its implementation and maintenance costs along with the expected benefit from reducing the numbers and severity of traffic crashes due to lack of lighting.
