Meeting the 23 CFR Part 637 codes for quality assurance (QA) procedures for intelligent construction technologies (ICT) for construction acceptance is a national hurdle. The ICT currently includes intelligent compaction (IC), paver-mounted thermal profiler (PMTP), and other emerging technologies, such as dielectric profiling systems (DPS). Meeting the CFR codes is a worthwhile endeavor to ensure the technologies produce quality data for construction acceptance decisions.
Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is among the leading DOTs working towards satisfying the requirements so that intelligent construction technologies can be fully implemented. This study’s main reason is to find solutions for IC and PMTP data QA issues encountered during the 2020 construction season. This study will identify the leading causes (both technical and institutional) for these issues and anticipate IC, PMTP, and DPS implementation issues. The results for this study will include solutions for these issues that can be implemented for the 2021 construction seasons and beyond to satisfy the related CFR code. |
