An Innovative Internet of Things (loT) Technology for Comprehensive Traffic Sensing and V2X Applications
项目名称: An Innovative Internet of Things (loT) Technology for Comprehensive Traffic Sensing and V2X Applications
摘要: This WASTIC project proposes to install and implement the University of Washington (UW) StarLab developed MUST sensors along roadways for data collection, condition assessment, and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) applications. The project team includes City of Bellevue, City of Lynnwood, and the UW STAR Lab. The goal of the project is to deploy MUST sensors along roadways with high crash risks, such as segments with horizontal and/or vertical curves, locations with frequent snow or ice coverage, etc., so that MUST sensors can monitor traffic and roadway surface and environmental conditions, and communicate with traffic operations center as well as broadcast useful information to road users when needed. Based on historical crash data and environmental conditions, the team has identified four locations listed below in Bellevue and Lynnwood for MUST sensor deployments to demonstrate the technology for improving traffic safety. Specifically, this project will utilize MUST sensors to collect traffic (volume, speed, vehicle types, etc.), roadway surface conditions (snow, ice, rain, etc.), and weather conditions (temperature, humidity, visibility, etc.) information. Besides data collection, supported by the edge computing and communication capabilities of MUST sensor, this project will investigate the most cost effective way for MUST sensors to transmit useful data to the transportation agencies and communicate with the operations center, as well as broadcast real-time information to road users through various channels (e.g., our customized mobile app, variable message signs, radio broadcast). In addition, the team will summarize project findings into an application guidebook to train agencies how to implement MUST sensors and share the findings with local agencies in Washington state and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) through conferences and webinars. This project aims to establish a standard procedure for state transportation agencies to deploy MUST sensors for data collection, roadway monitoring, and V2X communications for safety improvement.
