The proposed research is focused on providing data-driven safety analytical support in the project delivery lifecycle process. Data driven safety analysis during the design phase can evaluate multiple design options and compare the safety and cost of each solution from a safety perspective. The research will identify data needs, tools, methods, policies, potential software solutions and required structural changes needed to implement a data-driven safety approach for the project delivery process. The implementable product of the research will be a decision matrix supporting a restructure of Oregon Department of Transportation's (ODOT’s) project development process to incorporate and prioritize safety.
Direct benefits include data integrity, administrative simplification, more informed decision making, better targeted investments, and fewer fatalities and serious injuries. Indirect benefits include modernization and a reduction in total project delivery cost over time. |
