This report describes work carried out for Highways Agency under a project called “Better use of low PSV aggregate”. The project sought to evaluate the ability of a new laboratory procedure to simulate the polishing action of traffic, its suitability for use in materials specification and its potential for use in research to investigate skid resistance related phenomena. The first phase of work, considering the capabilities of the Wehner-Schulze machine, is reported in PPR 604 (Dunford & Roe, 2012). As part of the work to evaluate the potential of the equipment for research, it was used in experiments to investigate the effect on skid resistance of combining aggregates known to have different polishing properties. This report describes those experiments. |
