A Before-After Intervention Experiment and Survey for the Crenshaw/LAX Metro Line
项目名称: A Before-After Intervention Experiment and Survey for the Crenshaw/LAX Metro Line
摘要: This project takes advantage of a unique opportunity to study the real-time effects of an increase in access to rail lines in Los Angeles. It uses a rarely-done approach to transit data collection, because it targets the "untapped potential" of 77% of the population of Southern California that relies almost exclusively on personal vehicles for travel. The study will provide insight into the question of what it will take for people in Southern California to shift from driving private vehicles to using transit. In this study, with focus on the new Los Angeles Metro Crenshaw/LAX rail line, two interviews of the same respondents are designed. One before (called Wave 1) and one after (called Wave 2) the completion of the rail line. Between these two waves, an intervention if the form of incentives will attract people to public transportation. A third survey (called Wave 3) will also be drafted from lessons learned in the study. The intervention/treatment between Waves 1 and 2 for a portion of the respondents will study potential ways that policymakers and public entities can increase transit use. This will be used to provide policy recommendations by assessing behavioral change between Waves 1 and 2. The survey will examine respondents' current modes of travel, typical daily travel distances, attitudes, household structure, socio- economic status, commute characteristics, whether work/school locations are accessible along the transit system, among other traits.
