This report describes research which has been undertaken as part of the UK MOT project (http://www.motproject.net), a project focused on the data collected through the periodic technical inspection (PTI) regime in Britain for cars and light goods vehicles. The MOT project looks at the potential to use inspection data to investigate issues relating to car ownership and use, energy consumption, and vehicle emissions contributing to climate change and air pollution. Various analytical techniques have been developed, and one part of the work has been to understand whether such techniques either have been, or could be, used in other countries. In particular, the work has involved literature review, discussions with others, and a survey, undertaken between April 2016 and March 2017, to understand experience in other countries. This report provides: • Details of the survey undertaken and a compendium of the responses. • A summary of key literature identified during the survey process. |
