| 摘要： | Information technology in the recent years has played an incredible role in the operations of public and private firms by collaboration of various resources under an umbrella. Implementation of IT in the functioning can enhance the capabilities of the system and provide efficient services to the various categories of users. Significant transition from the legacy to the electronic delivery of service can be seen as e-governance in varied sectors. One such example is the case of BRTS which acts as a link between e-governance and sustainable transport management in India. The study reviews different facets of the Janmarg-BRT system, mirroring one of the most successful e-governance initiatives in India. The rapid escalation in the traffic has paralysed the growth and economic health of the country. Among the many, one considerably affected precinct is the city beautiful. Assimilating the best governance practices deployed by the Gujarat administration that are technically, institutionally and financially sound and have far reaching impact on the medium-sized city like Chandigarh, this paper aims to propose a sustainable solution to the pervasive urban transport problem. BRTS is a bus-based transport system providing same benefits as that of mass rapid transit system (metro), but compared to its alternatives it appears to be a cost-effective and viable solution. The noteworthy effects of BRTS are not only limited to curbing the traffic woes, but also on reducing fatalities, air pollution, and providing a secure, cheap and feasible mode of public transport. Applying the wisdom from the Ahmedabad BRTS, Chandigarh administration needs to develop a thorough learning model to comprehensively deal with the up-surging traffic issues. |
