摘要: Continuous construction and up gradation of existing infrastructure requires huge quantity of aggregates and bitumen every year. Bitumen and aggregates are the natural resources those are widely used in the road construction. Rapid use of these resources increased the cost of the pavement due to their scarcity and availability. Keeping in view of these limitations, the usage of marginal materials significantly increased from last few decades. The usage of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) in pavement construction evolved in a decrease of cost, and at the same time it is environmentally friendly and serves better as that of conventional pavement. The present study focused on the performance evaluation of different aged RAP blended wearing courses of Bituminous Concrete of grade 1 (BC 1). In this study BC 1 was selected because it is adopted as wearing course for roads which carry heavy traffic loads. BC 1 blended with 50 % RAP of 6 years and 12 years of age with the virgin aggregate and compared with the conventional mix in terms of performance tests like Resilient Modulus (MR) using Repeated Load Triaxial (RLT) test, Indirect Tensile Strength (ITS), Tensile Strength Ratio (TSR) using AASHTO T 283 and Moisture Induced Sensitivity Test (MIST). It is observed that there is a difference in the gradation before and after the preparation of the sample for the RAP blended mixes and accordingly the gradation is selected. And with the increase in the age of the RAP, the Resilient modulus is increasing, and this may be due to the presence of stiffened binders. The ITS values of decreasing with the age of bitumen for RAP blended mix. In case of TSR results, control mix shows more than 80% of the retained strength for AASHTO T 283 test, and RAP blended mixes did not reach the acceptable retained strength which indicates RAP blended mixes are not resistance to freezing and thawing cycle due to the weak bond between the aggregates and the bitumen and RAP. For Moisture Induced Sensitivity Test (MIST) conditioning which is more relevant to field conditions, aged RAP blended mixes show more resistance to moisture damage.
