摘要：	Public transportation serves as a cheap and convenient mode of transport for all classes of society, saves fuel and reduces congestion and pollution. It is important for economic development of the State. Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) is the only public transport system in the state of Goa. It is the lifeline of Goa, transporting people from one place to another. Transportation by bus makes the optimum use of available road space and fossil Juel, especially in a small state like Goa. On an average, car consumes nearly 6 times more energy than the bus. This study is an important consideration, since on an average about 72,000 vehicles are registered every year in Goa adding to traffic congestion, pollution, time lost in travel etc. The pollution levels in major cities in Goa have exceeded the normal and permissible limits. This is attributed to the high levels of air pollution due to increasing vehicular movement in cities like Panaji, Mapusa, Vasco and Margao. Introduction of green buses in Goa has been undertaken as a pilot project. It is, therefore, the need of the hour to adopt new technology vehicles, introduce Juel efficient buses, strengthen the inspection cum monitoring mechanism and rigorously improve maintenance and upkeep of buses.
