Studies were completed on the investigation of water-soluble inorganic and organic compounds, and of oils, to identify chemicals which could be placed in the wearing course of asphalt concrete . The objective of the study was to reduce the freezing point of surface accumulations of ice to weaken the ice-pavement bond or to prevent its formation. Tests were conducted to determine the persistence of additives and the effect on surface friction. Several promising candidate compounds were identified. |
