摘要: This U.S. E.P.A. driven project is a significant part of Southern Massachusetts ecosystem which eventually leads to the Atlantic Ocean. The New Bedford Harbor - Acushnet River area is approximately 18,000 ac of urban tidal estuary containing PCB and heavy metals contaminated sediment from two electronic capacitor manufacturers many years ago contaminating the upper river, harbor and bay area. The harbor was contaminated with PCBs for a least 6 miles from the upper Acushnet River into New Bedford harbor and Buzzards Bay in southern Massachusetts. Over decades of E.P.A. funded assess and clean-up of approximately 1M yd~3 of PCB contaminated material which has been dredged from New Bedford Harbor through Superfund programs. This Superfund marine environment is Massachusetts highest remediation priority.
