Berlin transport undertaking BVG has refuted German and UK trades union claims that its next 28 Alexander Dennis Enviro500 tri-axle double-deckers will be built in Turkey. Germany's public sector services trade union Verdi, one of the country's biggest, says UK union Unite told it that the first of up to 430 for Berlin would be assembled at a Karsan plant in Turkey. BVG spokeswoman Petra Nelken says they will not be built in Turkey, adding that the contract with Alexander Dennis stipulates that they are produced in 'a European Union member country'. It is not clear whether that rules out the UK, which finally leaves the Union at the end of 2020. |
