摘要: The purpose of this paper is to describe the advances in design of offshore skeletal steel marine structures over the last 20 to 30 years. This is achieved through a comparison of the original facilities of the following three facilities, and the most recent expansions of these facilities that are currently under construction. ?Cape Lambert Iron Ore Facility, North West Western Australia ?Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal, Mackay, Queensland ?RG Tanna Coal Terminal, Gladstone, Queensland Cape Lambert and Dalrymple Bay are exposed, offshore, points of loading. RG Tanna is a semi-exposed facility that uses the same design concepts. Overall these facilities involve an approach jetty, a wharf, and independent berthing and mooring dolphins. All primary framing (ie piles, headstocks and bracing) is steel. Decking is provided only where required, and is based on either timber, grating or precast concrete. Connell Wagner was responsible for the design of the original facilities and all marine upgrades at Dalrymple Bay (commissioned 1983, 1994, and currently under construction) and RG Tanna (commissioned 1980,1986,1988, and currently under construction). The original facilities at Cape Lambert (commissioned 1972) were delivered under a Design & Construct Contract with Harbourworks Clough. More recently, Connell Wagner has designed been involved in upgrades in 1999 and 2002. The following key design issues are considered: ?Assessment of extreme loadings ?Design approaches for extreme loadings ?Steel frame design ?Wharf design ?Berthing Dolphin Design ?Mooring Loads ?Resistance to Corrosion The paper concludes that while the overall design approach and primary framing has remained essentially the same, there have been significant advances in numerical techniques, in turn producing significant efficiencies in the structural design, resulting in better value for the capital dollar.
