摘要: Fender is commonly used for the purpose to absorb ship’s berthing energy and to decrease impact force of berthing ship. Ship’s berthing energy is proportional to the virtual mass of ship and the square of approach velocity, and it is reduced according to the rotational motion by the eccentric berthing. Currently, fender is designed by use of the calculated berthing energy for the maximum size ship and /or the standard size ship by use of those factors as the ship mass, the virtual mass factor, the design approach velocity and the eccentricity factor. Then, the suitable fender is selected to be able to absorb ship’s berthing energy. Recently, the size of ship increases so fast. For instance, size of modern container ships became more than 100,000 DWT. At some port where no berth is constructed to meet above those ships in full laden. As the result, those ships larger than the design ship is to be obliged to lightening their draft at berthing. Even if the berth water depth is secured, virtual approach velocity must be decreased less than the design approach velocity. Usually, the standard ship size is determined by means of statistical analysis of registered ships as the 75% or 95% confidence value. Therefore, entrance ship size may exceed the standard ship size. Furthermore, ship’s approach velocity is random variable. Therefore, in this study those values such as ship size, virtual mass of ship, approach velocity and energy absorption of a fender are treated as random variables. Size of entrance ships was investigated at the major container berths and general cargo berths. The statistical analysis on the probability of failure and the safety factor for fender design is proceeded by using those statistical analysis results of ship size but also separately investigated approach velocity. The authors attempted to design a fender for berthing ship by means of statistical method and presented the results to the Coastal Engineering in Japan (Ueda et al 2000) and the 11th and 12th ISOPE (Ueda et al 2001, 2002). In the previous paper, the probability of failure and the safety factor on fender design for container ships and general cargo ships were calculated. And in this paper, a guide line for the reliability design method of fenders for berthing ships is to be described in this paper, by showing the statistical characteristics of design factors and the safety factors relating to the characteristics of those design factors.
