Wisconsin DOT (WisDOT) has a long history of working with the local law enforcement in coordinating incident management. Much of the working relationships have been established and evolved as part of the ongoing Traffic Incident Management Enhancement (TIME) Program. At the heart of WisDOT's traffic and incident management program is the MONITOR traffic operations center. MONITOR has been in place since 1983 and has depended on incident data from the various County Sheriff's and the Wisconsin State Patrol. Several years ago the Milwaukee County Sheriff installed a computer aided dispatch terminal in the MONITOR control room. With restricted access, MONITOR operators are still able to see relevant details on traffic related incidents. The MONITOR Automated Incident Data Exchange Network is automating this connection so the incident data will be entered into the MONITOR system with minimal disturbance and recoding. The MAIDEN system will be deployed in 2002. It is inherently minimally intrusive on operating CADs and is relatively easily ported to new CAD systems. This paper will describe the new system and its enhancement to MONITOR operations. |
