摘要: In Arizona, a unique public-private partnership is working to create an Advanced Travel Information System (ATIS) that will make life easier for Phoenix-area commuters and traffic planners. One of only four Federal Model Deployment Initiatives (MDI) in the U.S., the Phoenix program is a joint venture among the Maricopa County Department of Transportation, the Arizona Department of Transportation and 13 local jurisdictions, teamed together in a regional ITS consortium entitled AZTech. AZTech is a seven-year project (two-year implementation and five-year operation) public-private partnership. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) operate the AZTech program with a partnership philosophy. Both ADOT and MCDOT have a leadership role in managing the project and share mutual support responsibilities. In 1996 local transportation agencies formed a unique partnership of public agencies and private companies named AZTech to seek ways to reduce travel time, improve travel safety, and increase overall quality of life in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Administering a $7.5 million Federal ITS model deployment grant of a $35 million project, AZTech is using advanced communication technology to integrate the region's transportation system and improve both travel conditions and air quality. An existing $250 million infrastructure of advanced technology provided the foundation to integrate ITS technology in the Phoenix metropolitan area. AZTech's mission is to integrate the region's Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) infrastructure through public and private partnerships as a national model for multi-modal transportation systems development, thereby minimizing environmental impacts and effectively managing transportation demands. ATIS is a priority for the metropolitan area, one of the fastest growing in the U.S. Getting the right information into travelers' hands while utilizing the most appropriate medium is critical for system success. With this in mind, several ATIS delivery methods were developed to encompass various types of customers.
