After experiencing severe damage by the Great Hanshin-Awaji earthquake in 1995, value of information was recognized to tackle those disasters. Japan Highway Public Corporation (JH), a 6,500km long nationwide expressway operation authority, deployed anti-disaster information system to have unified information of all eleven traffic control centers in Japan. In this system, nationwide information such as traffic information or meteorological data can be monitored by JH, and drivers can receive the information from JH. The system processes the collection, editing, and distribution of nationwide expressway information as a host center in Tokyo 2nd Operation Bureau. This paper introduces the disaster prevention and restoration information exchange system in which traffic information is included, and the future plan to communicate with other agencies or motorists based on this system is discussed.
