摘要：	Intelligent Transportation System projects are expensive to implement and operate. One of the major challenges is to get accurate travel information to all who need it quickly and in an affordable way. Almost all motorists have land-line and/or cellular telephones available for use. There are several projects which offer travel information by telephone for both pre-trip planning and en route corrections. One factor that affects usage of telephone travel information is the Dialing Code (number) used to access the available information. N11 Dialing Codes (3-digit telephone numbers) are scarce expensive and subject to regulatory assignment. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has used 311 for over two years in a six-county area. Usage statistics have shown that 311 has a greater per capita usage than a very attractive 7-digit dialing code. Reasons for this greater usage and a switch to 211 are presented.
